Company Profile

Amar Oil Company had its beginning in 1947 as a Shell jobbership when Edward Amar Sr. moved to Hammond from new Orleans.  The business was located on West Church Street in Hammond where it remains to this day.  It was at this time that the Amar family's philosophy of service to its customers and to the community at large had its inception and has survived throughout many years of growth and change.  In 1947 the volume of gas sales began at approximately35,000 gallons per month and is now close to 3.5 million gallons per month.   Today, Amar Oil serves 35 Chevron and Citgo outlets along with 7 independent dealers.  Of these numbers, they own and operate 14 convenience stores, employing around 150 people.

Amar Oil Company is very active locally in the community of Hammond, supporting SLU with donations to the Athletics and Boosters Club along with donations for scholarships for deserving students.  Another of the many charities which has benefited from the Amar organization is the March of Dimes with donations of over $5,000 a year for the
last 4 years.

Amar Oil Company is also very proud to be one of the oldest members of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, with Mr. Edward Amar, Sr. having served as one of its earliest presidents.  In 1999, Amar Oil Company was given the Small Business of the Year Award by the Hammond Chamber and the SLU College of Business.

Darrell Amar, Sr. has served as president and Edward Amar, Jr. as vice president since their father died in 1974.  They are both active in many organizations.  Edward, following in his father's footsteps, has served as president of the Louisiana Oil Marketers Association, while Darrell is currently serving as the secretary.  Both men have been active in state and national Chevron organizations with Darrell being the
representative for all Louisiana Chevron jobbers with he Chevron Petroleum
Marketers Association.  Both men are still active in Amar Oil Company, although now Darrell Amar, Jr. is general manager in charge of the stores and Brandon Amar serves as the supervisor of these stores.
